Travel
Whether you are traveling from Constantine The Great Airport Niš or from the city itself, the shortest and fastest way to travel to Zaječar and eastern Serbia is by regional road E-771, which is reached by turning off at the Malča interchange from the Niš-Sofia highway, which lies on the corridor E-80.
Svrljig is reached after less than half an hour’s drive, through which we pass along its entire length, continuing towards Knjaževac and Zaječar. We begin a gentle ascent towards Mount Tresibaba, whose highest peak is less than 800 meters above sea level. During the winter months, it is not rare to encounter fog and snow drifts and debris when crossing this mountain. Icy is also common, so winter equipment is also needed.
Where we pass next
With the Tresibaba serpentines, we descend towards Knjaževac. A cute place with a soul. We continue to Zaječar, which is exactly 100 kilometers from Niš and requires an additional half hour’s drive from Knjaževac. Zaječar – famous for the legendary Gitariada and the beer factory that is owned by Coca Cola and the Dutch beer factory Heineken has a nice tourist offer.
Zajecar
City of beer, city, guitar, city of Rock sound. The first Guitar Festival was held back in 1966, named Gitarijada, while the first beer in Zaječar was made in 1875. However, perhaps the biggest brand of this city is Felix Romuliana – an archaeological site, the place where the palace of the emperor Gaius Valerius of Rome was located.
Road to Romania and Bulgaria
From Zaječar, we go east towards the Vrška Čuka border crossing, where we enter the Republic of Bulgaria, continue towards the town of Vidin, cross the newly built bridge over the Danube River and enter Romania, from where the airport in Craiova is located 90 kilometers away.
The total time needed to travel from Niš to this airport is about 4 hours and 250 km of travel on regional roads. During the summer season, travel time is slightly longer due to delays at border crossings.
