„I’ve been, where I haven’t been, I don’t even know where I am anymore, I’ve seen everyone who’s what, misery and splendor, there are towns, what can I sin my soul, but there’s only one, you understand, town in which you are coming back to“ – wrote the most famous singer-songwriter from Novi Sad<\/strong>, \u0110ordje Bala\u0161evi\u0107<\/strong>. And there is a lot of truth in that. Transfer Ni\u0161 Airport -Novi Sad<\/a><\/p>\n

Novi Sad<\/strong> is one of the three largest cities in Serbia<\/strong>. Under the Petrovaradin fortress, a city on the Danube<\/strong> was born.<\/p>\n

About the city<\/h4>\n

It was founded in 1694 and was considered the center of Serbian culture for a long time, which is why it is better known under the nickname „Serbian Athens“. It has rightly maintained that epithet to this day, and numerous manifestations, cultural institutions and stations, and rich contents confirm that it is rightfully the holder of the title of European Capital of Culture (2022).<\/p>\n

History<\/h4>\n

Novi Sad did not have its own name for a long time – it was called Petrovaradin<\/em> \u0161anac (a military post that belonged to the fortification area). By decree of Maria Theresa, on February 1, 1748, Novi Sad received the status of a free royal city within the Austrian monarchy and the name „Neoplanta“, which translated into Serbian means New plantation (plantation) or Novi Sad. After the conclusion of the Peace of Karlovac, 215 families of border guards came and settled in today’s Alma\u0161ki kraj or Podbar, which is the oldest part of the city.
\nFrom its beginning, Novi Sad has been a multinational and multicultural city and has remained so until today. First
\nthe inhabitants built churches and they have been preserved to this day: Nikolajevska, Saborna crkva st. Georgia,
\nUspenska and Almashka.<\/p>\n

The most important event in Novi Sad’s cultural history was the transfer of Matica Srpska, the oldest Serbian
\ncultural institutions of the new century, from Pest to Novi Sad. Today, other cultural institutions operate within this institution
\ninstitutions such as the Library of Matica Srpska and the Gallery of Matica Srpska<\/strong>, and of exceptional cultural and historical
\nthe Museum of Vojvodina, the Museum of the City of Novi Sad, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Memorial Collection are also important
\nPavle Beljanski and Rajko Mamuzi\u0107 Gift Collection. To the residents of Novi Sad, but also to numerous guests, especially
\na visit to the Serbian National Theater, founded way back in 1861, is a pleasure.<\/p>\n

Where to go<\/strong><\/p>\n

When we talk about Novi Sad, we can’t help but brag about the Danube River that flows through Novi Sad<\/a> and
\nthe most famous Novi Sad swimming pool „Strand“, which is a favorite place of Novi Sad residents of all ages.
\nAlong the 5 km length of the Danube stretches the most famous Novi Sad promenade, Kay, which next to the pedestrian path
\nit has both a bike path and a running path. In addition, there are sports fields for indoor football, basketball,
\ntennis, bocce or mini golf, and everything is near the beautiful Liman Park.
\nIt has Novi Sad and bridges: Varadinski, Most Slobode and the railway-road \u017de\u017eeljev bridge from which
\nview of the Danube River and the Petrovaradin Fortress.
\nWe could not imagine Novi Sad today without a walk through the city center through the two main streets Dunavska (which
\nThe people of Novi Sad pronounce it with a „real“ Novi Sad accent and that’s what it’s known for) and Zmaj Jovine Street. There
\nwe can find a rich gastronomic offer in cafes and restaurants.<\/p>\n
